Diana Contreras

I am Doctor (PhD) from the University of Salzburg (Austria), lecturer on the online MSc. Program in GIS in UNIGIS Latin America. My PhD research developed spatial indicators of recovery after earthquakes. My MSc from the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente (UT) in The Netherlands focused on spatial planning support systems (SPSS) for emergency response after earthquakes. I also completed post-graduate studies at Colombia’s Andes University, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the National University of Colombia (2001). At the University of Salzburg, I worked on the MOVE project which aimed to create knowledge, frameworks and innovative methods for the assessment of vulnerability to natural hazards in Europe. I worked in disaster management at the Institute of Risk Management and Climate Change (IDIGER) in Bogotá D.C., Colombia. As an emergency management professional, I trained hundreds of volunteers in post-disaster building damage surveys and worked as an independent consultant on business continuity planning.
